WestDef, (formerly ADIS) was conceived by a group of like minded companies in the defence industry in Western Canada to showcase capabilities and technological expertise of Western Canadian defence contractors; and to provide exposure and connections between advanced technology SMEs and major manufacturers in the Aerospace, Defence & Security (A/D/S) industry in Western Canada.

WestDef is a two day conference which includes keynote, engaging panel discussion, session speakers, industry tours, displays, and networking events.

In 2012, the conference has changed its name to represent the wider scope of Western Canadian industry. WestDef is now recognized as one of the top three Defence and Security conferences in Canada.

In its inaugural year, 2010, the Symposium was sold out. It attracted local, national and international interest and was also covered by industry media. In a short 6 weeks, the time it took from conceptualization of the event to execution, it garnered such interest.

In 2011, attendance for the conference nearly tripled from the previous year. A new component of an exhibitors area was added and became a valuable networking tool for attendees and exhibitors alike.

Now those same founding companies sit on the Advisory Committee, as the newly formed Western Canadian Defence Industries Association (WCDIA) takes the reins of this event.
